About
Fractional & Interim CTO · Board Technology Advisor · Enterprise Architecture Executive · Scottsdale, Arizona
I get mid-market companies to AI in production — with the data, governance and controls that keep it there after I leave.
Thirty years in, I've spent roughly half my career inside a global energy major doing enterprise architecture at genuine scale, and the other half in consulting and fractional leadership, where the constraint isn't complexity — it's that there's no bench, no budget for a false start, and no CTO in the room.
Right now I hold three seats, and they do different work for a client.
I'm the sitting interim CTO for a luxury destination-club and vacation-rental operator — reporting to the CEO, owning the roadmap and the vendor portfolio, leading platform modernization, a modern data lakehouse, and a production agentic AI buildout on AWS Bedrock. That's the operating seat. It's where I'm accountable for outcomes rather than recommendations.
I head the Technology & Architecture Office at a global consulting firm. I set the firm's own technology direction and architecture standards, lead and hire the enterprise and solution architect team across multiple industry verticals, own how AI is governed in our delivery, and advise client CTOs, CIOs and boards on cloud modernization, application rationalization, and where their technology investment should go. That's the breadth seat — I see a lot of estates at once.
And JSummit Consulting is my own practice, where both of those come together for mid-market operators.
The combination is deliberate. Advising credibly about production AI, cloud modernization, and platform risk requires being accountable for those things somewhere — not just reading about them. And it's the reason I don't need two quarters to understand your business: I'm already inside a dozen technology estates a year, at the level where the expensive decisions get made.
Board & advisory value
Architected and shipped agentic AI on AWS Bedrock for pricing, data quality, and conversion at a live operator — with a governance-first operating model for AI-assisted software delivery. I can tell you which AI investments will reach production and which won't.
Serverless, microservices, and MLOps platforms on AWS, including a dynamic pricing platform recognized with an Engagement of the Year award. Enough scar tissue to know which architectural choices you'll regret in year three.
Application rationalization and platform simplification enabling ~$10M in cost savings, automation-driven FTE savings, and vendor rationalization built for lean operators. Modernization that partly funds itself.
Architecture governance practices, M&A technical diligence and transition architecture, and de-risking of key-person and access-custody concentrations — the exposures that rarely appear in a status report.
Background
Own the firm's technology direction and architecture standards, and lead and hire the enterprise and solution architect team across multiple industry verticals. Own the governance model for how AI is used in delivery, including AI-assisted software development. Advise client CTOs, CIOs and boards on cloud modernization, application portfolio rationalization, and IT investment prioritization. Lead the internal EA guild and communities of practice.
Production AI enablement for mid-market operators in fuels and energy, hospitality and travel, manufacturing, and financial services, delivered through the Production AI Blueprint and a fixed-fee engagement ladder built on the CTOx® Functional Technology® Framework — blueprint, build, then ongoing ownership.
Led the cloud and enterprise architecture practices end to end — go-to-market, capability development, and client delivery across AWS, Azure, and GCP. Trusted advisor to client CTOs and CIOs on EA roadmaps, modernization, technical-debt reduction, and agile transformation. Received the President's Award for exceeding revenue and client growth targets.
Designed a dynamic pricing platform on AWS using serverless architecture, MLOps, microservices, and real-time feedback analytics for a financial-sector client. Recognized with the Engagement of the Year award.
Led enterprise architecture for the downstream business: cloud migration roadmaps, analytics platforms, and application portfolio rationalization. Deployed Palantir Foundry and delivered 100+ analytics use cases on AWS spanning refining, logistics, sales, and finance. As enterprise solution architect, directed legacy platform modernization and mainframe decommissioning enabling ~$10M in cost savings, and designed transition architecture supporting M&A integration.
